I notice that often

I know
To love is to love unconditionally
No more, no less
Despite my desire
Which bombards me with ideas
About what I deserve

Desire is for the particular
You are particular
I am particular

If our selfishness is mutual
We can call it selfless
We can allow ourselves
to notice each other

Love is a force of union
If allowed, it will annihilate our selfhood
So we restrain
In the hope of coming together again and again
Teasing union
But remaining separate

So that I can keep noticing
How sweet and kind
Thoughtful and curious
Explorative and creative
